
Why You Don’t Need A Gym!
Maybe I’m biased but women seem to have busier, more complicated lives than men! We tend to do most of the childcare, work, have to deal with so much stuff, and there are simply not enough hours in the day! Going to the gym is just one more thing on our never ending to do lists.
But there are many benefits to weight training at home, even if you have very limited space.
- Save Time: This is a biggie!! No driving to the gym, getting changed, packing a bag. Whenever you have 20 mins, simply stick on a sports bra and lift a few weights! Its amazing what even 20 minutes can do. If you have kids, especially those who are too young to stay home alone, you have much more flexibility on time. And training with the kids around will set them a great example!
- Save Money: Yes, you will need a few basic pieces of equipment, but to get started you really don’t need much. Some bands or tubes are useful, a set of dumbbells, a kettlebell or 2 and you are good to go. This can be stored, and used in a tiny space. As you get more into it, a barbell is a great addition. This stuff will last you for years, way cheaper than a gym membership!
- Wear what you want: I know we shouldn’t but we do worry about what we look like. I have been known (ok it happens a lot) to wake up and workout in my pj bottoms and a sports bra, with greasy hair and a bit of yesterday's mascara still smudged under my eye:) That would not go down well at a gym!
- Less people and less germs: Especially at this time (I’m writing this in the middle of the CoronaVirus pandemic), many of us don’t want to be near a lot of sweaty people, heavy breathing and leaving sweat, germs and whatever else all over the equipment. All the home equipment at Women’s Weights is easy to clean!!
- You are confident: Especially for a beginner, it can be daunting being in a gym, surrounded by people who look fabulous (and often spend a lot of time looking in the mirror!), seem to know exactly what they are doing and make us feel a bit less than. We are NOT less than!! None of this happens at home, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know what you are doing (there are millions of you-tube videos to teach us), it doesn’t matter if we get red in the face, sweat and smell like a piece of cheese left in the sun.
NO EXCUSES!! Especially in the winter months, it's difficult to motivate ourselves to go out when it's cold and dark and would rather lie on the sofa and watch netflix. So stay in and train - you can even watch netflix at the same time!
